Staff must be given notice by their employer if they’re being dismissed or made redundant.
In the UK, the statutory redundancy notice periods are as follows:
|Length of time worked||Minimum notice period|
|1 month–2 years||At least one week|
|2–12 years||At least one week per year worked|
|12 years or more||At least 12 weeks|
Employers are free to give their staff longer notice periods, but they cannot legally give them less than the statutory minimum notice period.
