Notice period

Staff must be given notice by their employer if they’re being dismissed or made redundant.

In the UK, the statutory redundancy notice periods are as follows:

Length of time workedMinimum notice period
1 month–2 yearsAt lease one week
2–12 yearsAt least one week per year worked
12 years or moreAt least 12 weeks

Employers are free to give their staff longer notice periods, but they cannot legally give them less than the statutory minimum notice period.
