Staff must be given notice by their employer if they’re being dismissed or made redundant.
In the UK, the statutory redundancy notice periods are as follows:
Length of time worked | Minimum notice period |
---|---|
1 month–2 years | At lease one week |
2–12 years | At least one week per year worked |
12 years or more | At least 12 weeks |
Employers are free to give their staff longer notice periods, but they cannot legally give them less than the statutory minimum notice period.
