Leave types

When an employee books time off work (leave), it’s important for the type of leave to be recorded, since staff are entitled to a number of different types of leave beyond just holiday.

Common types of leave include:

  • Holiday

  • Public holiday

  • Sickness

  • Furlough

  • Absence (authorised and unauthorised)

  • Compassionate leave

  • Parental leave

  • Study leave

  • Maternity/Paternity leave

  • Training

  • Other Leave

Modern people management software lets managers record the type of leave that an employee requests (or is being given) quickly and easily, with records of any leave taken automatically stored on an employee’s profile.

Booked leave is also marked on the rota, reducing scheduling mix-ups and instances of shifts being given to staff who aren’t free to work.
